Coloratura Soprano Olga Jelínková Biography
Czech coloratura soprano Olga Jelínková studied at The Prague Conservatory and at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Master classes: by Richard Sigmund, Teresa Berganza in Santander, Peter Dvorský and by Gabriela Beňačková with whom she colaborates continuously.
Besides the others in June 2011 she was a finalist of the singing competition „Concorso di Canto lirico internazionale per Cantanti lirici“ – Giacomo Puccini in Italy/ Lucca. In November 2011 she won the 1st prize in „Antonín Dvořák’s International singing competition in Karlovy Vary.“
She performed as Rosina in South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice; as Eurydika Madam Herz and Olympia in J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen and in The City Theatre in Brno; as The Queen of the Night and Despina in Silesian Theatre Opava; as Adele and The Queen of the Night in The National Theatre in Brno; as Gilda, Olympia and Amina in F.X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec. She got a nomination for Thalia Award 2010 for the role of Amina.
In 2010 she performed as Micaëla (Bizet: Carmen) in Seoul, South Korea with the ensemble of the Prague State Opera.
Since February 2012 Olga has been performing in the Prague State Opera regularly. Olga sang Bellini’s Amina also in Polish Szczecin and German Ingolstadt. She sang Bellini’s Amina also in Stettin and Ingolstadt. In 2012 she debuted with the title role in Bellini’s: Lucia di Lammermoor, also she sang Nanetta and Despina in Silesian Theatre in Opava.
She participated as a soloist in Mahler´s Symphony No. 4 in cooperation with FOK orchestra led by Jiří Kout and Stabat Mater F. Poulence led by Serge Baudo. She recorded, among others, with violist Jitka Hosprová new song cycle by Zdeňek Lukáš Quis? for soprano and viola for the radio Český rozhlas. In 2011 she sang the voice of the main character in Jaroslav Brabec´s film Aplaus. The author of the music in this film – Jan Jirásek – has dedicated a new song cycle Voice on Canvas to her which they, together with pianist Martin Levický, recorded for Český rozhlas.
Her cooperation with The National Theatre in Prague started in 2014 as Mégacles (Mysliveček: L´Olimpiade), The Queen of the Night in The Estates Theatre in Prague and as The Nightingale followed. In October 2016 she made her debut with the title role in the premiere of Carl Orff´s Die Kluge.
She has been involved with the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc since January 2015 as well where she performed Gilda, Queen of the Night, Musette and Líza. In South Bohemian Theatre (České Budějovice- Budweis) she created all three roles in Ravel´s L´enfant et les sortilèges together: The Fire, the Princess and the Nightingale in May 2016.
In September 2016 she performed in the U.S.A: Boston Odyssey Opera in the role of Xenie (Dvořák´s Dimitrij). It was internationally broadcasted.
In May 17 she debuted with great success under the directon of Maestro Latham-Koenig in Brüssel and Antwerpen with Richard Strauss` “Vier Letzte Lieder“ and Mahler’s Symphonie Nr. 4.
In 2017 she sings regularly at the National Theatre in Prague (The queen of the night, Konstanze, Die Kluge) and in the Saarlandisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken (The Queen of the night).
Since season 2018/2019 she is involved with Staatstheater in Saarbrücken where she created roles such as Violetta Valéry or Gounod´s Marguerite. During season 2019/2020 she is going to appear there as Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Musette (La bohème), A voice from heaven (Don Carlos) etc. In September 2019 she sang several performances of The magic flute as Queen of the night in Volksoper, Wien. In November 2019 she debuted in Die Komische Oper in the role of Queen of the night.
The audience can saw in this role in Chemnitz Theater during October and December 2019 too. Starting season 2020/2021 Olga Jelínková is a member of the opera ensemble in Leipzig in Germany. This season of soprano Olga Jelínková features La Traviata, Gilda and Lucia di Lammermoor, as well as Wagner. The Czech soprano is fulfilling her dreams. In the upcoming season she will sing the most beautiful roles for her type of voice in Prague (CZ), Leipzig (GE), and Berlin (GE). after Gilda in the nw production of Verdi´s Rigoletto in Prague, she will appear as Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s “La Traviata” and as Clorinda in Rossini’s “La Cenerentola”, both at Oper Leipzig. The pinnacle of the next season for Ms. Jelínková features the demanding title role in Donizetti’s opera “Lucia di Lammermoor” in a production by the Leipzig Opera and in Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf in the spring/summer of 2022.
In autumn 2022, she created the title role in a new production of Albert Lortzing’s opera Undine in Leipzig. In addition to the role of Undine, during the season at the Leipzig Opera, Olga Jelínková also sings the role of Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s La Traviata, Cleopatra in Handel’s Julius Caesar or Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, as well as Donna Anna in Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni.
Olga Jelínková will welcome the upcoming season 2023/24 as the First Dame in Die Zauberflöte, later on she will be Violetta Valéry.
Beside this she sings Gilda in Rigoletto at the State opera in Prague and Lucia di Lammermoor in Düsseldorf production.
In the spring of 2024, she made her debut on her home stage in the role of Sophie in Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier and also added the title role in Bohuslav Martinů’s opera Juliette, or The Key to Dreams at the J.K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň to her repertoire. For her portrayal of this part, she received a nomination in the supporting category for the prestigious Czech Thalia Award for 2024. The Leipzig Opera opened the 2024/25 season with a new production of the late baroque work Knight Amadis by Johann Christian Bach, where Olga performed the role of Oriane. Further new premieres of this season include the dual roles of Thalie/Folie in Jean-Philippe Rameau’s baroque opera Platée at the National Theatre in Prague and Madame Folleville in the Leipzig production of Gioachino Rossini’s The Journey to Reims.
